Schools, the FRESH Framework and Achieving the UN Goals: An Overview

This section of our web site describes how school-based and school-linked efforts to promote educational success, health and various forms of human development are integral to the achievement of the seventeen UN sustainable development goals for 2030.

Click on this infographic to see how the school is central to the development of the whole child, and, consequently, to the achievement of the UN goals. Follow the web links from the icons and words within that diagram to learn more.

Then review the 17 pages that comprise the rest of this section to better understand the importance of schooling and FRESH in achieving the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals. Each of these pages examines one of those UN goals and provides:
  • an excerpt from the UN Description of that particular goal
  • a list of the school programs, policies and practices that address that goal as well as the "multi-component approaches" or "multi-intervention programs" that group and coordinate these interventions . In many cases, we provide additional links to brief descriptions of these programs or approaches.
  • an up-to-date list of the recent, current and planned global school-related initiatives being undertaek by UN agencies or global organizations related to the goal
  • a synthesis of the UN Targets for the goal
  • a list and explanation of the indicators that have been developed by the FRESH Partners (and other sources) to monitor and improve our progress in achieving the school-related progtrams for the goal.
We also recommend that you read this blog post published by the Global Partnership for Education that provides a rationale and evidence for working with schools and other levels of education to achieve the UN goals.
