FRESH Coordinating Committee Meeting: 25th April 2017

1. Current and future member of the FRESH Coordinating Committee-Attendees discussed the best approach of sharing out the letters to current and future members of the FRESH group. The suggestion was for the letters to be co-signed by those members approaching the concerned organization/individual. The letters should highlight the specific support that the FRESH Coordinating Committee expects from the addressee. FRESH CC members are requested to fill out the matrix shared by Doug and Mohini.

2. Updates from recent meetings and events
- The annual Comparative and International Education Societies (CIES) conference took place in Atlanta, Georgia, from 5-9 March 2017. The theme of the conference was problematizing inequality. The FRESH network was represented at this education event, through panels and presentations on Health Literacy, school WASH, school feeding, MHM among others. PCD is putting together an article on FRESH at CIES for the www.schoolsandhealth.org site. For more information contact Francis Peel.
- The annual conference of ASCD took place in Annaheim, California from 25-29 March 2017. One of the key topics for the conference was the launch of the “Whole child for the Whole World” global movement. Sean Slade presented on what the vision for this movement is and what the priorities are for the next 10 years.
- SDGs- Sean is part of the OECD future of education 2030 taskforce that is drafting recommendations for 2030 SDGs. Bella will share the WASH in Schools SDG indicators with Sean so that it can inform the OECD education 2030 taskforce.
- The NTD Summit 2017 took place in Geneva, Switzerland from 19-22 April 2017. GIZ meeting of NTDs in Geneva. The summit marked the 5th anniversary of the WHO’s roadmap to NTDs and the London Declaration. The summit included technical discussions among partners to define a path to achieving the 2020 goals and beyond. GIZ attended the event, read more about it here. - 4. Save the Children Road Safety Workshop- From 1-3 May, Save the Children is hosting an international workshop on Child Road Safety in Bangkok, Thailand. The purpose of the workshop is to engage staff from across Save the Children to determine the priorities and policy for the organization on the topic of ensuring child road safety. Save the Children has collaborated with the FIA Foundation, GRSP, the AIP Foundation and members of 100 resilient cities to organize the workshop. For more information, contact Seung Lee.
- World Water Week Stockholm- World Water Week in Stockholm is the annual focal point for the globe’s water issues. It is organized by SIWI. From 27 August to 1 September 2017, World Water Week will address the theme “water and waste – reduce and reuse”. GIZ will attend this event; for more information, contact Bella Monse.
- UNC Water and Health Conference- The annual water and health conference at the University of North Carolina will take place from 16-20 October 2017. The themes fr this year include: Climate resilience; WaSH and gender; Drinking water safety; Addressing disparities in WaSH: Rural, peri-urban, and indigenous populations; WaSH in non-household settings; and From evidence to action. Irene Amongin (UNICEF) will be hosting a side event on WASH in schools, and is currently consulting with the members of the WASH in School Network to inform the agenda.
- MHM day- 28th May is Menstrual Hygiene Day. The FRESH network will commemorate this day with a webinar on the Menstrual Hygiene in Emergencies. Marni Sommer from University of Columbia will be presenting on newly developed guidelines for MH in emergencies. UNICEF Philippines will share the Philippine experience on MH legislation. - 11th World Congress on Adolescent Health- This event will take place from 27-29 October in New Delhi, India. The theme of the conference is “Investing in adolescent health- the future is now”. The event includes skills building workshops; Doug McCall (ISHN) has submitted a proposal for a “school health” workshop, which has been accepted by the organizers. Members who are interested to contribute to this workshop should reach out to Doug
- UN high-level event on education- On 28th June the president of UNGA is hosting a meeting on SDG 4. GPE, UNESCO, UNICEF and the Global Commission on Education among others are preparing this event. Can the FRESH CC put a one or two pager for this event? Doug Mc Call is enquiring with FRESH CC members.
